Why HCMC choose Thu Thiem Urban area to replace District 1?

Ho Chi Minh/ Saigon has planned Thu Thiem as the hugest project of morden and development of city in 21th decade.

Geographical location

With an area of ​​737 hectares, Thu Thiem is strategically located within the Northeast growth belt of Ho Chi Minh City. Unique location opposite and only a short distance (9 min by car est.) from the historic downtown core area of ​​District 1 by the Saigon River.

The location is convenient in terms of traffic as it is the GATEWAY, the first point of the intersection of the Hanoi highway to the northern provinces. The East-West Highway passes through Thu Thiem peninsula connecting the western provinces with the Southeast, connecting with the Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway, creating a connection with the other side of the Dong Nai river. In addition, the distance from Thu Thiem peninsula to Long Thanh international airport (Dong Nai) in the future is not too far when traveling by highway (1h by car est.)

Insfrastructure

Since the plan was approved by the city, this area has received the city's investment attention with a lot of infrastructure projects being built. Thu Thiem has SYNCHRONOUS TRANSPORT infrastructure with some road project already have been in use. There are significant points to note that the 1st river tunnel of Vietnam and 5 bridges be like an outstreched hand connect Thu Thiem to the economic center of Ho Chi Minh city.

  • Some new roads such as Mai Chi Tho Street, Arc Avenue (6 lanes), central lakeside road (4 lanes), Saigon riverside (2 lanes)... have been put into use.
  • Currently, Thu Thiem 1 bridge (Thu Thiem - Binh Thanh) has been completed since 2010, Thu Thiem tunnel (Saigon River) was also put into use more than 2 years ago.
  • Thu Thiem 2 Bridge (Thu Thiem - District 1) is in the process of 70%.
  • The pedestrian bridge connecting Thu Thiem with District 1 (at Me Linh Square) in plan.
  • Thu Thiem 3 and 4 correspond to District 4 and District 7 will be built in the near future.

Density and "warranty card" of Government
